What this is
Persona Finder lets you save a set of contact-level targeting criteria, such as job titles, seniority, skills, and locations, as a reusable Persona. Once saved, a Persona can be applied to any Audience to generate a Buying Circle, without rebuilding the same filters each time.
When to use this
Use Persona Finder when you want to:
- Save a contact profile (for example, "IT Decision Makers") that you plan to target across multiple Audiences
- Apply the same Buying Circle criteria to different Audiences without recreating filters from scratch
- Identify common attributes shared by a list of LinkedIn profiles or uploaded contacts, and turn those attributes into a reusable Persona
The Personas List
The Persona Finder home screen displays a table of all saved Personas, including:
- Name
- Description
- Contacts Found: the number of contacts matching the Persona's criteria
- Date Created
- Last Modified
Each Persona has a View button to open its details, and an additional options menu (...). To create a new Persona, click New Persona +.
Creating a Persona
When you click New Persona +, you can choose from three creation methods:
- Create a Persona from Scratch
- Create a Lookalike Persona (LinkedIn URLs)
- Create a Lookalike Persona (Uploaded List)
Create a Persona from Scratch
Build a Persona by selecting filters directly. Available fields include:
Persona details
- List Name
- Description
Account-level filters
- Required Contact Information (for example, Work Email)
- Industries
- Company Size (Employee count)
Contact-level filters
- Seniority
- Departments
- Department Sub Roles
- Job Titles
- Job Title Exclusions
- Max Contacts Per Account
Advanced Attributes
- Job Start Date
- Location Keywords
- Location Metros
- Location States
- Location Country
- Skills
- Interests
As you adjust filters, the Contacts panel on the right updates to show matching results. Click Update List to refresh the preview, or Save Persona to save it.
Create a Lookalike Persona (LinkedIn URLs)
Build a Persona based on shared attributes across a group of LinkedIn profiles. This method has four steps:
Step 1:Go to LinkedIn and find up to 50 profiles you want to base your Persona on. Copy each profile URL (for example, linkedin.com/in/john-doe) and paste them into the field. Do not use Sales Navigator URLs.
Step 2: Propensity analyzes the submitted profiles and displays attributes they have in common (for example, an Industry value shared across the profiles). Each attribute shows a # Found count. Use the search field or View All Attributes to review all available attributes, and select the checkboxes for the attributes you want to carry over to your Buying Circle list.
Step 3:Based on the attributes selected in Step 2, Propensity displays the total number of contacts found and shows a sample of 10, including Name, Account, Email, Job Title, Role, and Industry.
Step 4: Enter a Persona Name and Description, then click Create Persona.
Create a Lookalike Persona (Uploaded List)
Build a Persona by uploading a list of contacts to match against the Propensity database.
- Download the CSV template (optional).
- Your file must include the columns Email or LinkedIn URL. Alternatively, you can include First Name, Last Name, and Company Name. Propensity matches both personal and work emails against contacts in its database.
- Enter a Persona Name.
- Click Upload to add your file.
- Click Submit List.
Viewing a Persona
Click View on any Persona to open its details. The detail view includes:
- Description and Date Created
- Attributes: the criteria that define the Persona (for example, Required Value, Industry, Job Title Levels, Skills)
- Contact Sample: a preview of 10 contacts matching the Persona
- Selected LinkedIn Profiles: the LinkedIn profiles used to build the Persona, if applicable
- Edit and Delete options
From this screen, you have two options for putting the Persona to use: Build an Audience for [X] Contacts and Use Persona Attributes +.
Applying a Persona to an Audience (Buying Circle)
Use this option when you already have an Audience and want to apply your Persona's contact criteria to it as a Buying Circle.
- From the Persona's detail view, click Use Persona Attributes +.
- Select an existing Audience (Account List) to apply the Persona to.
- Propensity opens the Buying Circle screen, pre-filled with the Persona's attributes (List Name, Required Contact Information, Seniority, Departments, and other contact-level filters).
- A message confirms that the contacts shown are generated from your connected Account List, based on the criteria defined. The page shows a preview of the first 25 results.
- Adjust any filters if needed, then click Save Audience. After saving, you can view a larger sample of 250 results.
This is the recommended path for reusing a Persona as a Buying Circle template across multiple Audiences.
Building an Audience Directly from a Persona
From the Persona's detail view, click Build an Audience for [X] Contacts to create a new Audience directly from the Persona's criteria.
Use this option when you want to create a brand-new Audience based on the Persona, rather than applying the Persona's criteria to create a Buyer Persona within an audience that already exists.
Important Notes
- “Use Persona Attributes” applies the Persona's contact-level criteria to an existing Audience as a Buying Circle. “Build an Audience for [X] Contacts” creates a new Audience from the Persona directly. Choose “Use Persona Attributes” if your goal is to avoid rebuilding the same Buying Circle filters across multiple Audiences.
- When applying a Persona to an existing Audience via Use Persona Attributes +, only contact-level filters (Seniority, Departments, Job Titles, and similar) are applied. Account-level filters (Industries, Company Size) will come from the Audience you select, not from the Persona.
