What This Is
The Gong integration allows Propensity to sync account and contact engagement data directly to your Gong workspace.
When a configured trigger is met, such as a contact becoming hot, an account becoming hot, or a tracked website visit, Propensity creates or updates the matching Gong account and contact records with:
- Warmth
- Warmth Reason
- Warmth Change Date
- Propensity ID
This gives your sales team Propensity engagement context alongside their Gong conversation intelligence and account activity.
Note: In order to activate this integration, please contact your success representative.
When To Use This
Use this integration when your sales team works in Gong and needs visibility into which accounts and contacts are actively engaging with your marketing and website experiences.
For example, a sales rep can see that a contact is hot, why they became hot, and when their engagement level changed before or after reviewing their Gong conversations.
Requirements
- This integration must be activated by your success representative
- Admin access to your Propensity workspace
- Gong Technical Admin access, with permission to authorize OAuth applications
- Permission to view account and contact information in Gong
Propensity automatically creates and maintains the required fields in Gong after the connection is authorized. You do not need to create custom fields manually.
Step 1: Authenticate the Connection in Propensity
- Log in to Propensity.
- Click your profile icon and go to Workspace Settings.
- Go to Connections.
- Find Gong and click Grant Access.
- You will be redirected to Gong's authorization page.
- Sign in with a Gong Technical Admin account and approve the requested permissions.
- You will be redirected back to Propensity once authorization is complete.
The connection is now authenticated. Authentication alone does not push data to Gong; data flow is controlled by the Sales Alert you configure in Step 3.
Step 2: Verify Propensity Fields in Gong
After connecting Gong, verify that the Propensity fields are visible on Gong account and contact records.
Verify fields on an account:
- In Gong, go to Accounts.
- Open an account that was created or updated by Propensity.
- Open the account's Details or CRM information.
- Confirm that the following fields are available:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Propensity ID | The unique Propensity identifier for the account |
| Warmth | The account's current warmth status |
| Warmth Reason | The engagement activity that caused the warmth status |
| Warmth Change Date | The date the warmth status was last updated |
Verify fields on a contact:
- In Gong, go to People.
- Open a contact that was created or updated by Propensity.
- Open the contact's Details or CRM information.
- Confirm that the following fields are available:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Propensity ID | The unique Propensity identifier for the contact |
| Warmth | The contact's current warmth status |
| Warmth Reason | The engagement activity that caused the warmth status |
| Warmth Change Date | The date the warmth status was last updated |
If the fields are visible but do not yet contain values, continue to Step 3 and wait for a qualifying alert event.
If the fields do not appear, confirm that Gong authorization completed successfully. Do not manually recreate the fields; Propensity manages them through Gong's API.
Step 3: Set Up a Sales Alert in Propensity
Sales Alerts control when Propensity creates or updates records in Gong.
- In Workspace Settings, go to Sales Alert.
- Click Add Alert.
- Select Gong as the Alert Type.
- Select your Alert Trigger. Recommended triggers include:
- Lead Becomes Hot (Contact-Centric Scoring) — syncs a contact to Gong when they meet your defined hot criteria based on their individual engagement. This is the recommended trigger because it gives you control over when contacts are created or updated.
- Account Becomes Hot (Account-Centric Scoring) — syncs an account when its aggregate engagement meets your defined hot criteria.
- Website Visit (Contact Level) — syncs a contact as soon as a tracked website visit is detected, regardless of their overall engagement level.
- Optionally select ICP Only to limit alerts to contacts and accounts that match your Ideal Customer Profile.
- Turn the Alert Status to On.
- Save the alert.
Step 4: Customize Your Hot Definition (Optional)
By default, a contact may become hot after visiting a tracked webpage or clicking on a Propensity Display Network ad. You can customize this definition to reflect the engagement signals that matter most to your business.
For example, you may require a combination of high-intent website activity, advertising engagement, and campaign interactions before Propensity syncs a contact to Gong as hot.
To create a custom warmth rule, see What is Custom Contact Scoring and how to use it and Custom Account Scoring in Propensity.
Important Notes
- Authenticating Gong does not start syncing data. Data only flows once an active Gong Sales Alert is configured
- Propensity automatically creates and maintains the required fields on Gong account and contact records.
- Propensity creates a Gong account or contact when no matching record exists
- Propensity uses the Propensity ID field to associate future updates with the correct Gong account or contact and to prevent duplicate records
- If a contact does not have an associated account, Propensity creates or matches the account using the contact's company website domain when available
- If you have multiple Propensity workspaces, authorize Gong separately for each workspace
