What this is
Apex can be connected to Claude using the Model Context Protocol (MCP). MCP is a standard that allows AI tools like Claude to connect directly to external platforms and act on your behalf. By connecting Claude to Propensity via MCP, Claude gains access to your Propensity workspace and can interact with it in real time.
Once the connection is set up, you can use Apex directly from Claude using natural language prompts, without needing to open Propensity separately.
When to use this
Use this setup when you want to interact with Apex directly from Claude, for example to retrieve campaign performance, check engagement metrics, or manage audiences using natural language.
What you can do with this connection
After connecting Claude to Apex, you can use Claude the same way you would use Apex directly. This includes:
Campaigns: Create new campaigns, check campaign status, and retrieve performance data using natural language prompts.
Audiences: Build and refine target audiences based on account attributes, contact criteria, intent signals, and CRM data.
Analytics and Reporting: Pull engagement metrics, compare campaign performance, review warmth score activity, and check spend data across your active campaigns.
Assets and Plays: Generate ad creative and manage omnichannel play configurations.
In practice, any prompt you would send in Apex can be sent directly in Claude instead. Claude connects to your Propensity workspace, processes the request, and returns the results in the chat.
Data privacy
When Claude is connected to Apex, your personal contact data is not shared with Claude. Claude only receives aggregate, summary-level data, such as impressions, clicks, and totals. Information that could expose personally identifiable information (PII) about your contacts is not included.
What you will need
Access to Apex
A Claude account (web or desktop)
Choosing a Setup Option
To connect Apex to Claude, select Take Apex with you on the left side of the Apex screen. Make sure Claude is selected, and then choose the option that fits:
- Set up Apex for my team: Add Apex to your Claude workspace for the first time. This requires admin access in Claude.
- My team already has Apex: Use the existing connector and connect your account if needed. No connector configuration is required.
- I already use Apex: Open Claude and get back to work. You can skip setup.
Option 1: Set Up Apex for Your Team
Use this option to set up Apex once in your Claude workspace and make it available to your teammates. You need admin access in Claude to complete this setup. Your Propensity role doesn’t grant that permission.
- Click Continue with team setup
- In Claude, open Settings, and then go to Connectors → Add → Add Custom Connector
- In Propensity, click Open Apex connections in Apex and find your MCP URL, Client ID and Client Secret
- In Claude, name the connector Apex and paste the MCP URL
- Review authentication. If Claude requests them, enter the OAuth client details from Apex connections: the Client ID and Client Secret
- Add Apex, and then configure which roles can use it
- Test Apex with your Propensity account, and confirm that it shows the correct workspace and campaign data
Option 2: Connect to Your Team’s Existing Apex
Use the Apex connector your team already added to Claude. You don’t need to create another one, and you don’t need an MCP URL or OAuth client details.
- Open Claude in the organization where your admin added Apex. Go to Customize → Connectors and find Apex
- Install or enable the existing Apex connector, and then sign in to Propensity if prompted
- In your Claude conversation, enable Apex from + → Connectors
If your organization uses managed authorization, you may not need to sign in personally.
To check that the connection works, select Copy prompt under Try Apex, and then paste it into Claude: “Use Apex to confirm my Propensity workspace and summarize my active campaigns.”
Option 3: Return to Apex in Claude
If Apex is already connected, open Claude, choose Apex, and bring your next marketing question.
- In the Take Apex with you window, select I already use Apex
- On Pick up with Apex, select Open Claude
- In Claude, choose Apex and ask your question. For example: “Use Apex to review my active campaigns and recommend what I should do next.”
If you need to reconnect or can’t find Apex, select I need to reconnect or find Apex. To see an earlier conversation, continue it in Claude. Opening Claude from this page doesn’t transfer your Apex chat.
Optional: Set Permissions
After you add Apex to Claude, you can turn on Always Allowed to let Claude connect to Apex automatically without asking for permission each time.
If you skip this step, Claude asks for your permission the first time you run a prompt that uses Apex. You can choose Always Allow at that point to avoid future prompts.
Using the connection
Once connected, you can send prompts in Claude that reference your Propensity data directly.
Example prompt:
Give me my top 10 most engaged campaigns of the last 10 days.
Claude will connect to Apex and return the results in the chat.
The same proposal and confirmation behavior used in Apex also applies when working through Claude. If you ask Claude to create or modify a campaign, audience, or play, Apex first checks whether a matching record already exists, then returns a proposal for your review. Nothing is created or changed until you confirm.
Important Notes
- Your Claude MCP URL (for the MCP Access Token URL) is unique to your account. Do not share it with others.
- Always Allowed is optional but recommended. Without it, Claude will request permission each time it connects to Propensity, which may interrupt your workflow.
